Mark Goldberg, MD
Mark Goldberg, MD has been the owner of Velda Rose Medical Center since 1990, serving East Mesa for over 30 years. Prior to acquiring the practice, it was owned and operated by Fred Obley, MD, a well-respected physician, author, and politician. It was Dr. Obley’s passion and gregarious personality, along with his “patients first” mantra that originally lured Dr. Goldberg to East Mesa and to Velda Rose Medical Center.
Dr. Goldberg’s now busy practice is a tribute to the quality medical care and compassion he conveys to his patients. Caring for his patients, as if they were his own family, has always been the foundation of his practice. Dr. Goldberg completed his clinical years of medical school at the University of Maryland Hospitals. After deciding to pursue a career in Family Medicine, he completed a three-year Family Practice residency at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine FP Residency in Oceanside, New York. Dr. Goldberg was honored to be elected and serve as Chief Resident for his final year of residency.
Dr. Goldberg was certified as an instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support which he taught for many years after his training. Concomitantly, he taught family practice residents at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Later, Dr. Goldberg completed an extensive preceptorship in Laser Dermatology with David Goldberg MD, Chief of Laser Dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY.
Dr. Goldberg’s compassion and acumen continue to drive his already large family practice. He believes in and employs cutting-edge technology in preventing, diagnosing, and treating a multitude of disease states. His practice consists of a wide patient age group, treating adolescents to geriatrics.
Dr. Goldberg loves to ski, follow and play sports, enjoy live music, and spend quality time with his kids. He has a passion for animals that almost led him to a career in veterinary medicine. He loves to laugh, and see the lighter side of life, But most of all, he loves caring for his patients, building those relationships, and being their number one health care advocate.
Michael Demko, DO
Dr. Michael Demko is a Board Certified Family Practice Physician at Velda Rose Medical Center. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a one-year rotating internship and a two-year family practice residency at Mesa General Hospital. Dr. Demko sees patients of all ages and has an aggressive approach towards disease processes while encompassing a customized preventative risk treatment plan. He has a special interest in dermatology and cardiology. Dr. Demko has also completed numerous research studies and keeps current with medical advances and new treatments. He is married and has two children attending Arizona State University. He has numerous interests and enjoys working on cars and home projects. He enjoys reading, traveling, sports, cooking, and spending time with his family. Dr. Demko is always happy to talk about your health and other non-medical topics. He is currently accepting new patients.
David Izenberg, DO
Dr. Izenberg graduated from the University of Arizona with his undergraduate degree then attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, which has since been renamed to West Health Science University, located in Pomona, California. After a year of rotating internship in Downey, California at Rio Hondo Memorial Hospital, he returned to Mesa, AZ where he has been practicing family medicine ever since.
Dr. Izenberg incorporates conventional medicine with a naturalistic approach whenever possible. He believes in creating a strong bond between physician and patient and values the bond that he creates with each and every one of his patients! He is a strong patient advocate.
Dr. Izenberg sees patients of all ages and believes in proactive health care. He attempts to educate his patients as much as possible so that they can confidently care for their health. He believes in a total approach to the patient, and is thorough in his approach to each one of them. He has a strong focus on cardiovascular risk reduction and tries to take a holistic approach to treat his patients first, before reaching for medications. If possible, he always prefers to treat naturally. He has a wide range of treatment modalities in-house and uses them to take full advantage—taking a proactive, preventative approach to health care.
Dr. Izenberg is happily married and has 6 sons, 4 of whom are quadruplets! He has been a coach, mentor, and enjoys a variety of sports.
Uma Gopakumar, DNP
Dr. Uma Gopakumar is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing, and Masters of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner from Grand Canyon University in 2007 and 2012 respectively. Not settling for the typical level of education for practicing nurse practitioners, Uma decided to continue her education and pursue the ultimate level of education for FNP’s, a doctorate degree. She graduated from Arizona State University with a doctorate in Nursing with a specialization in family practice in 2017. Uma is a current member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, as well as Sigma Theta Tau.
Uma believes in the promotion of health and well-being, alongside patient education to achieve the best outcomes. She believes in education and research, and applies this to her patient base, making certain her treatment protocols are truly the latest, most effective, and proven remedies available. Uma is passionate about her belief in applying preventative medicine to her patent population, reducing the incidence of disease, both in the short term and later in life.
In her free time, Uma enjoys travel, camping, reading, and spending time with her family.
Alaina Vacco, PA
Alaina Vacco is a certified Physician Assistant (PA). She graduated from The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in English. She then moved across the country to get her Masters in Medical Science from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. There, she also studied Bioethics for her minor degree. She has given several guest lectures at Midwestern University and at NAU in the management of Type 2 Diabetes and Women’s Health. She is passionate about educating future providers in addition to keeping her clinical knowledge current.
She has worked in family practice since 2013, seeing pediatric patients through adulthood. She specializes in chronic disease management and strongly values preventative healthcare. Alaina’s goal is to provide care with the most effective and up-to-date methods available while providing her patients education on how to stay healthy and avoid or reduce the rate of illness.
Alaina originally hails from Joliet, Illinois. She currently lives in the East Valley with her family. Beyond the clinic, she is a published author and photographer. She enjoys cooking, being outdoors, growing plants, and of course, being a mom.
Leslie Stumpff, LMSW
Leslie is a master’s level clinician whose experience includes working with law enforcement, substance abuse, severe and persistent mental health, and general mental health. Leslie has worked with a variety of people of various age groups and enjoys supporting others in finding their solutions. She believes in individualized treatment that meets the needs of each distinct individual.
Leslie is originally from Kansas and has made Arizona her new home since 2016 Family is very important to Leslie and she recently moved her parents to Arizona to be closer to her and her sister. When not working at Velda Rose Medical Center, Leslie enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is very passionate about animals and enjoys spending time with her dog, who she enjoys taking for walks when the weather is nice.
